About Vins&Vinos

Hi, I’m Alex, and I’ve been working in the wine industry since the mid-1980s. My passion for wine began at a young age while working in restaurants and kitchens in England during my summer holidays, where I first discovered the pleasure of pairing great food with great wine. From that moment on, I became fascinated by flavors, aromas, grape varieties, and the way terroir and craftsmanship shape every bottle.

After graduating in 1985, I moved to Chablis, France, to train in viticulture and winemaking. Since then, I’ve dedicated my career entirely to wine, from retail and wholesale to working as a sommelier, helping create restaurant wine lists, and developing international export networks. Along the way, I’ve earned several professional qualifications, including advanced studies in International Wine.

Opening my own wine shop in Carcassonne was a dream I had for many years. I wanted the freedom to personally select wines I truly believe in and share the excitement of discovery with others. Today, I specialise in wines from Occitanie, across Europe, and the New World, always looking for bottles that tell a story and offer something memorable.

For me, wine is about enjoyment, sharing, and connection. Whether you are an experienced collector or simply curious to try something new, I hope to help you discover wines that inspire and bring people together.

I run private tours for individuals and groups which get you into some of the most coveted wineries in the region and get you to taste some of the best wines around. We have loads of contacts and experience from running Vins & Vinos tasting rooms and the Carcassonne Wine Shop. You are welcome to come and try before you buy!
